At Bli Bli Little Athletics our Under 7 to 17 athletes can compete against athletes from other centres within our region at two regional carnivals and potentially go on to State level competition. These are the Regional Relays (generally in November) and the Regional Championships (generally in February). This year’s relays are as follows:
McDonald's Sun Coast Regional Relays
Date:
09 Nov 2013
Location:
Deception Bay LAC grounds, Zammit Oval, Deception Bay
Detail:
Everyone can have a go. No special qualifications are necessary to enter the Regional relays or championships, just the desire to compete and have fun.
Athletes in the Under 9 to 17 age groups, competing at either of these Regional Competitions are eligible, based on their performance, to compete at the State Relays and State Championships. Generally the first 3 places in each event qualify to compete at State competition.
Relays are a fun opportunity for all children to participate as a team and to foster the "Bli Bli team spirit" in our athletes. Relay events are one of the few opportunities we have to compete as a team. We'd like to see as many of our registered athletes as possible competing at Regional Relays. As it's early in the season, some of the coaching during the first few weeks will be given in relay training.
Relays include both track (running) and field (jumping, throwing) relays. Track relays involve a team of 4 athletes each competing in a leg of the race. Interested athletes will be placed in teams by the committee. In field relays, athletes compete in a team of 2, where the "team" score is the sum of 2 individual performances. Athletes will be paired based on their performances on the day.

At Regional Relays, athletes may compete in a higher age group and girls can compete in boys events, but no athlete can plan to compete in the same event in 2 age groups nor in more than 5 events on the day. Parents should note that this is an all-day competition and canteen facilities are available. The club sets up a club marquee for the Bli Bli athletes and supporters to use as a central muster point.
Nominations for Regional Relays need to be made to the Centre Committee. Relay teams will then be selected for entry into the competition based on performance, by the Centre Management in conjunction with the Records Officer. Everyone will be notified of their respective teams prior to the event. It is important to realise that when you submit a nomination to the committee that the athlete is promising to attend the competition. This is really important as the ability of the team to compete depends on each athlete turning up to the competition.
